The ride today was a rendezvous peloton from Fol Epi to Royal Roads. Despite the overnight rain and wet leaves, it was an enjoyable ride in "emerging" sunshine.
The only downside was James' flat tyre, but it didn't dampen spirits as you can see

On Oct 31, Norm T, David A and James J rode 30 km from Lochside Park to Sidney and back. No major incidents - a long coffee break to escape from the rain. A couple of black dogs crossed our path, but no goblins or ghosts to report. They obviously had fun, despite the rain.
Given the importance of cycling as a means of transport in the Netherlands, it is not surprising that they look for innovations to keep cycle paths safe for night use and winter use.

RRU to My Chosen Cafe.
Organized by James Jeffery, we had 10 eager riders, many also rode from Foi Epi to RRU, thereby doubling up their "air miles". The conditions were "wet fall", no rain, some mud on the trails, lots of wet leaves. A bit dark, cool and overcast. However the mood was positive as always and we cycled at a goodly clip to get our fill of the awesome cinnamon buns and coffee at MC Cafe. On the way back Rusty had a flat (first one in 3 yrs. for him). Murphy's law, he found the shop had sold him a spare tube with schrader valve but he needed a presto. Anyway we got a patch on it and got going. Stopped for air at the nearby bike shop on the Goose near the Luxton Fairgrounds. The sun did peak out a bit in the early afternoon. It was a longer than normal ride, this reporter got home about 1:30, a bit exhausted from the est. 55 - 60 km. trek.

Living in Victoria, BC, we know that politicians see cyclists as political fodder. However, in the State of VIctoria, Australia, they have gone one better - they have formed the Australian Cycling Party. whose goal is a "Cycling Friendly Australia".
Those who follow matters Australian will not be surprised to learn of this development - there is also the Australian Sporting Party which has a senator elected to the upper house in Canberra.
There is also the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party which also has a member elected to the Senate in Canberra.
The ride for August 29, 2014
The ride started at Fol Epi following the Galloping Goose to where it crosses Sooke Road, then following Ocean Blvd down to the Esquimalt Lagoon. At the western end of the Lagoon, the ride took Lagoon Rd to Heatherbell Road to the Coast Collective. From there an uncharted trail was taken into Royal Roads University grounds where there was the mandatory coffee stop before returning to Harbour Road in the city.
There were 7 riders led by Norm T who rose to the challenge of the blustery conditions.

Today was our first ride with the new start time of 9.00 am. The response was mixed. Jack thought it was great because he had to be up at 6.00am in any case. Tom lay awake most of the night for fear of sleeping in!
John looked very spiffy in his Tour de Victoria shirt - very colour co-ordinated with matching bike and gloves! Well done, John. As someone pointed out later, we should have taken a picture of him for the Blog or Photo Gallery!
I tried using CycleMeter for the first time today - see the Apps page. John has used the app and his experience is that it is a bit of a memory hog - I would second that opinion after today.

It was an awesome day = perfect for a bike ride.
I should add, the coffee stop was at Cordoba Bay Golf Club.
