A Full Complement, and then some!
The Peloton assembled at Mile Zero, at least most us did! Thanks to a person of good will, Wayne and Cy found the proper starting point! Speaking of Mile Zero, here is a link to a good news story related to Terry Fox's Memory. Let's here it for VanCIty. We had a baker's dozen riders in the 10 Mile Point Peleton today. Wayne S. was welcomed back to the Peleton while Arne and Rob made cameo appearances on the "relaxed" ride. Andy O left his tennis racquet at home and joined the ride today to determine if all the "porkies" Cy, Ken Wo, Jim and Arne had been telling were indeed true.
Even before the ride got started there was some lively banter as Mark shared his passion for Rep by Pop, Ken Wo showed his skills as a Victoria Ambassador by volunteering to take photos of tourists at Mile Zero. When a full bus load of tourists disgorged he decided to be part of the Peloton and head out along Dallas Road. At the Fairfield Cemetery the Peloton split between those who opted for the challenge of the Gonzales Rise and those who preferred the more "level" option.
The Peloton re-grouped north of the Oak Bay Marina where David B joined us. From there it was onwards and upwards to Olive Olio's where a long coffee break was appreciated. Topics at one end of the table included the "orange crush" in Alberta, the long overdue change in the Air Canada policy of monitoring carry one baggage, the challenges of subduing ivy in the garden [ hope that David B wins the battle], diplomatic appointments - Russia's refusal to allow a German MP who is a supporter of Ukraine to enter Russia, and the decision by France to appoint a guy ambassador to the Vatican. Further conversation has been redacted!!
Consideration was given to dropping by James to monitor/supervise the garden shed project, but common sense prevailed.
Meanwhile over in Sooke, 4 riders met at Stickleback under cloudy skies. The sun did emerge later for a pleasant ride. For the record it was noted that Norm T arrived exactly at 9:30 but was not the last to arrive, that honor went to a gentleman with the milk crate carrier and orange clogs for cycling shoes today. We wasted no time powering up to Leechtown on a fairly quiet trail. The discussion included taxation systems and ideas, Texas flooding, etc. On the return trip a near miss ended well when a lady with a stroller, little girl and dog all spread out on a risky downhill part of the trail near a trestle bridge. The skilled riders responded well and averted a possible crash. We returned without further incident, no coffee stop at the end this time as everyone had places to go. Special mention to John, for whom this was only a part of a 110 km training ride today.
