Tom's meteorological influence
Four riders cycled up to Michell's farm (Dave A, Dave N (on a new bike), John Coyne and Ian Mayhill) and four less adventurous (Jack, Jim, Jeff and Tom) drove to the starting point. The weather was very threatening and there was a strong wind from the SE. This propelled us along at super speed with Jack B. leading us most of the way. We arrived at Melinda's in about 40 minutes and welcomed the hot coffees. Conversation at T.A.'s end of the table focused on Jeff's trip to California and the possibility that the rougher sections of the Lochside trail would be paved with a side section devoted exclusively to horse traffic. This, if nothing else, would remove some of the more aromatic hazards from our bicycle wheels. Unfortunately no time frame for this improvement is available and no doubt Saanich has other priorities. Reluctantly we left the comfort of Melinda's as we dreaded the ride back into a strong headwind. Miraculously the wind had abated such that no such problem was encountered and even the rain held off. All arrived safely at Michell's and the intrepid four proceeded on. Tom A. took exclusive credit for the shift in the wind direction having made special arrangements to that effect with the weather forecasters. Thanks to Tom for the content!
