Good to be back in the saddle
This was a split start Peloton with five pelotoneers assembling at Hatley Gardens while another four met up at the Uptown Bridge. There was a brief pre-ride e-mail debate about delaying the Hatley start in order to better co-ordinate coffee times. However, three of the Hatley contingent had to be back for meetings so we left as scheduled. No matter where they started everyone was glad to be back in the saddle after the spell of gnarly weather had curtailed our rides. The Lately mob enjoyed a cool slow ride on frozen ground with low hanging sun and the occasional fallen branch combining to make the visibility something of a safety issue. Despite passing many walkers with dogs and a few with babies we made it safely to MyChosen Cafe for cinnamon buns. Norm L turned back at Kangaroo Road to make his meeting time.
It was agreed that France and ISIS were off limit topics over coffee, choosing instead to focus on our summer jobs.
Meanwhile the Uptown Bridge mob passed the Godfather pedalling furiously in the other direction just south of the Luxton Rodeo grounds, only to arrive at the MCC - MCC stands for My Chosen Cafe, the Poms think that it stands for the Marleybone Cricket Club aka Lords! By the time the “long ride” Peloton arrived the “short ride” Peloton was preparing to leave, having finished coffee and were complaining loudly about how long it took the others to get there. They seemed to have forgotten that they had only cycled half as far! The coffee overlap plan was a dismal failure due to start times and places. Just sayin... This did not stop the remaining 4 from discussing, in marked contrast to the other group, ISIS vigorously along with other worldly problem solving. The meet ups will not always work out. The ride home was equally fast into a cool wind. 1 rider turned off at the E & N and 3 others continued on the Goose. No incidents or near misses. The "F" word has not been experienced on the trail for some time now, it seems.
We can all take heart from this news item and be thankful that we don't have to contend with this
