Headwinds
Despite the dire weather forecast of 90% "light rain" six members of the peleton (John C, Norm T, Hans T, Cy S, Rob H, and Tom) met at Ogden Point under cloudy skies. Along the route they were joined by Arnie S. The predicted rain held off but a steady wind and occasional gusts off the ocean made for some white knuckle moments. Coffee at Starbucks in Cadboro Bay (rather than Olive Olio's) as it offers overhead heaters for the outside seating. Topics at my end of the table included such fascinating subjects as horse manure on the trails (riders should, like dog owners be prepared to pick up their animal's droppings, failing which the horse should be diapered), the ongoing arguments regarding sewage disposal methods (sites and costs and the politics associated therewith) and the bottlenecks at the Mackenzie-Trans Canada junction (there are apparently three proposals two of which merely move the hold-up to another location.) These and other topics will no doubt continue to regale residents of the CRD long after the last member of our aging peleton has joined the bike path to infinity. The ride back proceeded in greatly diminished winds, without incident (as far as I know) with various cyclists taking different routes home.
