Canoe Cove Capers
Under a sunny skies and mild conditions, the majority of riders started at Lochside Park, Jim started at Michell’s and Norm L. started at Cy Hampson Park - his excuse for opting for a shorter ride being jet lag.
If previous blog posts are to be believed, the pace seemed a little slower than on recent rides, probably making allowances for those coming back after time off the saddle!
Coffee was at Canoe Cove Joe’s based on Norm T’s recommendation. Riders enjoyed this new ride with a new coffee stop with a spacious deck which we enjoyed.
Conversation wasn’t earth shattering - no heavy duty topics were on the agenda. New cars seem to be sold more on their electronic wizardry rather than their muscle! For example Norm T. referenced his new Honda Accord with side view camera . Other Norm brought up that it is now possible to install DAS -a Dooring Alert System - it is even available as a retrofit
Rob and Tom compared notes on their trips to Maui and their experience with the submarine trip at Lahaina - they claimed the trip was for the grand-kids, but we knew they were every bit as keen as the grand-kids!
Norm L. shared his experience of having a wheel chair at the airports on his trip to Australia; having just recovered from a pinched nerve in the lower back, a wheel chair was recommended as a precautionary measure. Based on the special treatment that wheel chair travellers experience - moving to the front of every queue in an airport - it is easy to see why some travellers falsify their need for a wheel chair. Jim talked about the “miracles” that take place on flights to Florida where some passengers make use of the wheelchair request to ensure they get on the plane first and get their carry on luggage in the overhead bins before the masses arrive. Once at their destination, suddenly those who required a wheelchair at the beginning of the flight are able to get up and be first off the plane without any wheelchair! A miracle indeed.
Jim referenced the Theracycle Program as an antidote in the treatment of Parkinsons
Indeed you can become a Parkinson’s Cycling coach!
This blogger apologises for not taking better photos today - he is out of practice. Indeed, he forgot to wear his gloves and came without a water bottle!
